REPSLog lets you opt out of having your data shared for advertising. This guide explains what that sharing is, how to find the opt-out, and what changes once you opt out.
What "Data Sharing" Means Here
To help spread the word about REPSLog to people like you, we share a hashed version of your email address with advertising platforms. Hashed means it is scrambled into a fixed code before it leaves us. The platform cannot read your address out of the code, but it can match the code against the addresses it already holds, which is how it recognises you if you have an account there. We never send the address itself. The platforms use it to include you in or exclude you from our campaigns, and to build "lookalike" audiences: groups of similar people who might also benefit from the app. It does not involve your logged hours, properties, or any of the work records you keep in REPSLog.
Separately, when you sign up, start a trial or buy a subscription, we send a record of that event to our advertising partners so we can tell which campaigns work. That record carries a hashed version of your email, an account identifier, the amount paid, and, where the event is sent from your browser or app, the network details it sends with any web request, such as your IP address and the rough location it implies. It never carries any part of your work log.
If you would rather not be part of that advertising sharing, you can opt out from inside the app. We will remove you from those advertising lists.
Tip: Opting out of data sharing is separate from deleting your account or your data. It only stops your hashed email from being shared for ad targeting. See the Data Security and Delete Account topics if you want to know how your data is protected or how to remove your account entirely.
How to Opt Out
- Open Settings.
- Scroll all the way to the bottom, past the version number.
- Tap Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information.
- Read the short explanation in the window that appears.
- Tap Opt me out to confirm. (Tap Cancel if you change your mind.)
After you opt out, you will see a confirmation message: Request received. We'll process it within 15 business days.
What Changes After You Opt Out
- Your request is recorded, and your email is removed from the advertising lists used for lookalike audiences.
- You are removed from every advertising audience we maintain, on every platform we upload to. The campaign measurement records described below are separate.
- The opt-out link disappears from your Settings screen, since you have already opted out.
- Everything else stays the same: your account, your logged hours, properties, categories, and reports are all unaffected.
What the opt-out does not cover
It stops us adding you to advertising audiences. It does not currently stop the sign-up, trial and purchase records described above, which we send for campaign measurement. If you would like those stopped as well, contact us and we will do it by hand.
Troubleshooting
I tapped the opt-out but then changed my mind. Did anything happen?
No. If you close the window with Cancel (or by dismissing it) instead of tapping Opt me out, nothing is submitted and the link stays visible. Your data sharing preference only changes when you tap Opt me out.
The opt-out link is gone. Why?
The most common reason is that you have already opted out. Once your opt-out is on record, the link is hidden so you do not submit it twice. If you sign in with Apple using a private relay email (an address ending in @privaterelay.appleid.com), the link is also hidden, because that relay address is not shared with advertising platforms in the first place.
How long does it take?
We process opt-out requests within 15 business days of receiving them. Removal from the advertising audiences happens automatically as part of that process.
Will this delete my account or my hours?
No. Opting out only stops your hashed email from being shared for advertising. Your account and all of your data remain in place. To remove your account or data, see the Delete Account topic.
