REPSLog can send push notifications to your phone: daily reminders to log your hours, updates on your progress toward your goal, and news about new features. This guide shows you how to turn notifications on and off, what the Timer shows on your lock screen, and what to do when your phone or browser blocks them.
Before You Start
- Push notifications are a feature of the iPhone and Android apps. The web app does not have a notifications switch, so use the mobile app to manage them.
- Turning notifications on is available on every plan. Reminders to log your hours are part of the Premium plan; see Comparing REPSLog Subscription Plans and Features.
- Your phone has the final say. If notifications for REPSLog are turned off in iOS Settings or Android Settings, the app cannot send anything until you allow them there.
- If you are signed in to someone else's account as a delegate, the Notifications switch is not shown. Notifications are managed by the account owner on their own device.
What You Will Receive
When you first allow notifications, REPSLog lists what it sends:
- Daily reminders to log your hours, so the log stays current instead of being rebuilt at tax time.
- Updates on your progress toward your REPS or material participation goal.
- New feature updates and other useful information.
How to Turn Notifications On
The first time you use the app
- During setup, REPSLog shows a screen titled Stay on top of your REPS Goals with the list above.
- Tap Enable Notifications. Your phone asks for permission; tap Allow.
- If you would rather decide later, tap Skip (or Later on the pop-up version of the same screen). REPSLog also offers the screen once after you add your first property or your first entry.
Later, from Settings
- Open Settings in the iPhone or Android app.
- Find the Notifications switch and turn it on.
- If your phone has not asked for permission yet, it asks now. Tap Allow. You will see Notifications enabled.
- If your phone already refused permission, REPSLog shows an Allow Notifications message with an Open Settings button. Tap it, allow notifications for REPSLog, and return to the app. The switch turns on by itself once permission is granted.
Tip: The Notifications switch is saved with your account, but each phone needs its own permission. If you use REPSLog on two phones, the second one asks for permission the next time you open the dashboard there.
How to Turn Notifications Off
- Open Settings in the iPhone or Android app.
- Turn the Notifications switch off. You will see Notifications disabled.
Turning the switch off stops REPSLog's push notifications. You can also block them at the phone level in iOS Settings or Android Settings; REPSLog respects that and turns its own switch off the next time you open the app.
For short-term rental hosts
If you track hours for the STR loophole, turnover days are the ones most worth logging on the day: a guest checks out, the property is cleaned and restocked, the next guest checks in. With notifications on (and a Premium plan), the daily reminder arrives on those days like any other. When it does:
- Open the reminder, or the app, and tap + Add a New Entry.
- Pick the short-term rental the work was for, so the hours land on that property's row on the STR view of the dashboard.
- Set Who Performed the Activity? to Myself for your own work, or to Cleaner, Property Manager or a participant you added for work someone else did. Their hours are listed under the property, separately from yours.
There is no separate reminder schedule or setting for short-term rentals; the same daily reminder and the same Notifications switch apply. Use the Timer on turnover days if you prefer to time the work live.
Timer Notifications
The Timer uses your lock screen separately from push notifications:
- iPhone: a running Timer appears as a Live Activity on the lock screen and in the Dynamic Island, with controls you can use without opening the app.
- Android: a running Timer shows an ongoing notification titled Timer Running (or Timer Paused with the elapsed time) with Pause, Resume and Done buttons. It lives in a notification channel named Timer, silent and without vibration.
- Web app: the Timer runs in the browser tab with no lock-screen notification.

Troubleshooting
iPhone: the switch will not turn on, or I see "Cannot enable notifications without permission"
iOS has notifications for REPSLog turned off. Open the iPhone Settings app, scroll to REPSLog, tap Notifications, and turn on Allow Notifications. Return to REPSLog; the switch turns on automatically. If REPSLog shows the Open Settings button, tapping it takes you straight there.
Android: notifications are enabled in the app but nothing arrives
Open Android Settings, go to Apps, choose REPSLog, then Notifications, and make sure notifications are allowed for the app. Some phones also have battery or data-saver settings that silence apps in the background; allow REPSLog to run unrestricted if reminders are late or missing. If you only miss the Timer notification, check that the Timer channel is allowed.
The app says "Your device blocks our notifications."
The phone is preventing REPSLog from registering for notifications at all, for example because of a content blocker, a restricted profile, or a device policy. Remove the restriction, or try on another device, then turn the switch on again.
Web app: where is the Notifications switch?
There is none. Push notifications are managed from the iPhone or Android app. Sign in on your phone, open Settings, and use the Notifications switch there.
The Notifications switch turned itself off
This happens when notification permission was removed at the phone level after you had turned the switch on. Re-allow notifications for REPSLog in your phone's Settings and turn the switch back on.
I have notifications on but I do not get daily reminders
Reminders are a Premium feature. Check your plan in the app's billing settings. The Notifications switch itself is available on every plan, so having it on does not by itself mean reminders are included.
